Adventures in Writing and Editing...

From Australia to Hollywood and Back

The New England Writers' Centre, in partnership with UNE, is proud to present ‘Adventures in Writing and Editing: From Australia to Hollywood and Back’ with Katiedid Langrock and David Yontz.
Seminar
Real Characters in Hollywood

UNE, Education Building 007, Room 224
10:30-11:30am

Come meet Katiedid Langrock (TV writer, TV development exec., columnist) and the managing editor she married, David Yontz. Together they will talk about how they grew into their careers and learned to navigate the seemingly impossible world of TV writing, TV development and publishing.  (SPOILER: It started quite pathetically with a cross-country road trip, $87 in pocket and three handwritten screenplays.) Katiedid will also speak to her new project that just got picked up  for production by Australian TV. After the talk, they will both answer questions from the audience on any topic, including where they see their respective industries going and how to break in.

Workshop
Story Engine Characters: Creating Emotionally Engaging Characters that Sell

UNE, Education Building 007, Room 104
1.00-3.00pm

In this workshop, you will learn tools, tips and tricks on creating characters that
emotionally hook your readers, whether writing novels, TV pilots, screenplays or even poetry. It is character, not plot, that drives an emotionally potent story. Let's get behind the wheel. We end the session on tips on how to make a Hollywood sale and the grammatical and formatting mistakes that will indicate you are a novice and will hinder your success.
