Once Upon A Time: A Fairy Tale Workshop

Fairy Tales are ancient. T​hey have been told all over the world, through the centuries but they’re also timeless, and they’re certainly not just for children.

​For a writer, they can be a wonderful source and inspiration. From short stories to novels, retellings to reversionings, fairy tales offer an array of magical gifts for the creation of imaginative story-worlds.

Join author Sophie Masson on a journey of exploration as she guides you through the wonderful world of fairy tales and how you can use them in your own work to create enchanting and powerful fiction, for readers of all ages.

​Sophie Masson AM is an award-winning writer of over 70 books for children, young adults and adults. She has always had a strong interest in fairy tales, and her most recent book is the collection French Fairy Tales (illustrated by Lorena Carrington, Serenity Press) which features five of her retellings.
​Several of her novels are based on fairy tales, such as Moonlight and Ashes, Scarlet in the Snow, The Crystal Heart, and Hunter’s Moon. Her recent picture book Once Upon An ABC (illustrated by Christopher Nielsen) features characters from fairy tales and folk tales from around the world, and in 2021, The Silver Apples of the Moon, her short story inspired by The Snow Queen, will appear in the South of the Sun anthology (Serenity Press). An entry on her and her fairy tale-inspired work is in the latest (2015) edition of The Oxford Companion to Fairy Tales.
