What to expect...
Michelle will help you to discover the principles of writing for children and learn to create dynamic and vibrant picture books. Michelle’s goal is to inspire children to believe in themselves and encourage reluctant and special needs readers to fall in love with books. She will share with you her extensive industry knowledge, the basic principles behind writing for children, picture book publishing guidelines and updates on the current market and publishing environment.
Trish will explore various mediums from digital drawings, pen, acrylics and mixed media and will be sharing with you her techniques and work process to enhance your own creative practice. She will look at ways of visually interpreting words, the use of character and environment to tell a story, colour, composition, and the flow and pacing of a book. This workshop is for people of all creative levels but if you are a beginner it is ok, Trish is very kind to beginners.

![]() Trish Donald is a graphic designer and artist whose experimental and quirky style has led her into the world of Children’s Picture Books. She has just had her first picture book published Tissywoo and the Worry Monsters.
Trish has an extensive teaching background having taught at private colleges in Sydney and locally at TAFE where she managed the graphic design course and built a vibrant design community. A degree in Fine Arts has seen her exhibit in solo and group shows in local galleries including NERAM, and a career in Graphic design in NZ and Australia has exposed her to a variety of studios from the gaming, advertising and publishing industries. Trish is currently a Learning Media Producer at the University of New England developing resources for online education and strategic projects in Teaching and Learning.
