Researching & Writing Historical Fiction

This online workshop offers skills in transforming research materials into vivid scenes in historical fiction. 

Participants will be introduced to techniques for finding inspiring archival material, setting scenes, composing vivid images and engaging characters.

At the end of the session, you will have written a short scene in response to source material.

Writers at any level are welcome to join.

Meet your presenter

Dr Ariella Van Luyn is a lecturer in writing at the University of New England, where she teaches skills in fiction, creative nonfiction and editing.

​Ariella is the author of a novel of historical fiction, Treading Air and over ten short stories published in national and internal magazines including Overland, Southerly and Island. Her research investigates historical fiction and biofiction, creative practice-led research and online writing pedagogy.
