We will be completing the final section of the course content for from the ‘Writing What You Know’ from The Open Universities series we were moving through toward the end of 2018. The course. The focus of this section will be Memory and Narrative.

In February we will be returning to a MOOC - Pack from the University of Iowa -Moving the Margins: Fiction and Inclusion Identities and Social Issues in Fiction and Nonfiction. This MOOC-Pack focuses on writing with imagination and craft that pushes the boundaries beyond standard styles of thinking and writing.   University of Iowa is renowned for its International Writing Program and its MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses). Anyone can register for these free MOOCs and thousands do from across the world. Their class materials including videos, readings and writing exercises are posted online and made available for groups to use.

NEWC member, Kathy Ewers will facilitate the HUB. She plans to introduce the monthly topic, play videos of international authors speaking on the subject and to assist discussion and debate with reference to angles raised in the MOOC materials. Starting at 10am, with the videos taking 30 to 40 minutes, then discussions. There will also be time for participants to talk about writing pieces based on material presented and readings.
