The judges commented that the winning projects stood out for their creative and relevant interpretation of the theme as well as showing clear evidence of development potential and of being achievable within the tight time frame. All submissions were awarded points on a matrix that included theme, scope, imagination and clarity and the decisions are final.
Thank you to our hardworking judges and thank you also to all the entrants for the Micro-Grants program: choosing the winners was not an easy decision for the judges!

Author-illustrator Trish Donald will be interviewing six people from the New England region regarding their experience, or a memory, of growing up in the New England Summer, and using those conversations to reflect on her own experience living through many New England summers, and creating a series of micro stories from it. She will then explore ways of translating these stories into a visual medium that could be ‘placed’ temporarily into the setting or landscape from which the stories were set.
Author-illustrator Fiona McDonald will be creating an illustrated journal incorporating text and illustrations of New England flora, fauna and landscape bound together with thoughts and memories from a lifetime of living in the region. The finished work will take the form of two or three posters and the handwritten text will be an integral part of the overall design so that the words and pictures will make a graphic unit.
Author James O’Hanlon will be writing a short (~4000-5000 words) science fiction story set in the New England tablelands in the summer, about a budding young zoologist who has an unfortunate run-in with the so-called Tablelands panther. This story will be the final in a collection James has been writing, science fiction with a comic twist.
